5.4 Magnitude Earthquake in Southern CA, July 7, 2010

Los Angeles California was again shaken by a 5.4 magnitude  earthquake  on July 7, 2010 at 4:56 pm pacific time which was followed by a few moderate aftershocks.  The first report which was aired shortly after the quake was a 5.9 magnitude but immediately downgraded to a 5.4 magnitude after  it has been confirmed.

The epicenter of the earthquake is at about twenty miles northwest of the town of Borrego Springs and 28 miles south of Palm Springs. Borrego Springs is located in San Diego County, California.

The quake was felt more in San Diego County in the dessert areas and even in some parts of  the San Bernardino County. The shaking was more intense in these areas  than in the greater los angeles area. Residents in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Valley, downtown LA and more felt a  moderate shaking while others felt a jolt. The shaking lasted for about 15 to 20 seconds estimated which was long enough to scare peoples nerves.

According to some reports, the quake was probably triggered by the previous  7.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in April 2010 Easter Sunday which was centered in Mexicali Baja California, U.S. Mexico border at 3:40 pm (Pacific Time). The quake was felt in Los Angeles, California, Phoenix and Yuma Arizona.

There were minor damages reported and no injuries and casualties.
