Bering Sea

Bering Sea is a body of water located in the Pacific Ocean with a deep water basin. It is situated in the east and northeast of the Gulf of Alaska, west of Russia's Siberia and Kamchatka Peninsula, on the south of the Alaska Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands and on the far north of the Bering Strait. The Bering Strait separates the Bering Sea from the Arctic Ocean's Chukchi Sea.

Bering Strait is commonly referred to as the "Bering land bridge" which is believed to be the first point of entry of humans into the Americas.

Virtus Bering, a Danish navigator first explored the Bering Sea in 1728 sailing from the Pacific Ocean northward to the Arctic Ocean. Soon after, this was named Bering Sea after Virtus' last name "Bering".

Bering Sea maintains a rich, healthy and sustainable ecosystem. The marine life caters to the most endangered and rarest whale species. It is also a haven to King Crabs, opilio and tanner crabs, Bristol Bay salmon, pollock and other groundfish.

Bearing Sea is also a habitat and a breeding ground for seabirds.
