Two Woodstock Nursing Home employees in Illinois pleaded guilty after putting their patients in danger.
Penny Whitlock, 59, the ex-director of the nursing home and a Woodstock city resident, was charged with five counts of criminal neglect (by encouraging an employee to act as angel of death) of a long-term care resident and two counts of obstructing justice.
Another employee Marty Himebaugh, 57 (Nurse) , a Lake in the Hills resident, was charged on six counts: four counts of criminal neglect of a long term care resident, one count of acquiring a controlled substance by fraud and one count of unlawful delivery of morphine. She was also charged with irresponsibly giving morphine to Virginia Cole, who allegedly died at the Woodstock Residence.
A co-worker quoted her saying to the down syndrome patients " They are not meant to live that long. They are meant to die in their teens and I am going to help them along.
A female patient died after receiving morphine from her. A co-worker told investigators that after the dose was administered, Himebaugh said "She won't make it through the day. I make sure of that"
Six patients died in that facility back in 2006. The McHenry County facility was fined $360,000.00 after an employee mixed drug cocktails to make sure residents "would not be bothering her during her shift," according to a report by the Illinois Public Health Department.
The nurse declared she was amazed because one of the women who were administered a strong narcotic substance didn’t died. "I can't believe she's still alive with all the morphine I've given her,'' she purportedly said in 2006, when the incident happened.
