Katy Perry is an American Singer-Songwriter who made it to the hollywood limelight after a smash hit single released in 2008 entitled "I Kissed A Girl" (and I like it).
She was born on October 25, 1984 as Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in Santa Barbara, California. Obviously, Katy Perry is just an adapted stage name. She grew up singing gospel songs in church because her parents are christian pastors.
Katy Perry first released her self-titled gospel album in 2001 with her real name "Katy Hudson" but unfortunately it didn't make any noise in the music industry. Another album was recorded with the production team from 2004 - 2005 but none was released.
In 2007, Katy was signed with Capitol Music Group and soon after released online her first single "Ur So Gay" bearing her stage name Katy Perry. She started to ignite some attention with this single release but it was not too much of a noise. It didn't even make it to the charts. Then followed her second single in 2008, still released online on May 6, 2008 and yalla! there she was in the spotlight.
Katy Perry became a household name in the entire U.S.A and the world. A very catchy title "I Kissed A Girl" dragged her name to the top. Following the release of her first hit singe was the release of her album "One Of The Boys" carrying "I Kissed A Girl". This album was recognized as the 33rd Best Selling Album of 2008. Another hit in this album is the song "Hot n Cold" which also gathered multi-platinum certifications.
Her name became so huge that she landed big projects like an appearance on the daytime soap opera, The Young and the Restless. She also posed as a cover of 2008 issue for "Restless Style" magazine.
Aside from her smashing hit singles, her unconvention outfit with color combinations and vintage fashion was also a hit. She was best known for that.
In 2010, she again released a single featuring Snoop Dog. This song gave Katy Perry another trip to the # 1 position in the billboard chart. This song is "California Gurl". Now, she is gearing up for the release of her 2nd album "Teenage Dream" on August 2010.
