Everytime you make changes to your yahoo email account, an email will be sent to your secondary email. The details of the changes will be included in this email.
You have to remember that once your account will be hacked, these thieves will also change your secondary email to theirs. So, if you change your password or if you change your password first before changing your secondary email, it will not save you from the hands of the crooks.
As I have mentioned above, if you make changes to your email account like changing the password, an email will be sent to your secondary about the changes.
So, in other words, if the secondary email belongs to them already (because as I have said, when your email is hacked, they will also change your secondary email to their own email) every time you change your password, they will also receive the new password. They will still be able to log in to your account using the new password.
In order to stop this from happening, you have to change your secondary email first before anything else. That is Step # 1. To do this, log on to your email account, and click "Options" on the upper right corner as shown on the image above.

Click "Mail Options" to open the "Account Information" link. See illustration below.
